Long Distance Calling
To place a long distance call:
Direct Dial

Dial 9-1-area code + 7 digit number.

Listen for "beeps".

Dial your 7 digit Authorization Code, your call will then go through.
Operator Assisted (collect or third number billing)

Dial 9-0-area code + 7 digit number.

Listen for "beeps".

Dial your Authorization Code.

Wait and an operator will handle your call.
To place "800", "888",
"866" number calls:
Dial 9-1-800, 888 or 866 + 7 digit number. Your call will then
go through. There is no charge for this service.
To place credit card calls:
St. Olaf College's long distance operator service is handled
by Sprint. With this service you are able to continue to use your
AT+T credit card. In addition, you will be able to use American
Express, MasterCard, Visa, Diner's Club, Discover Card,
and JCB cards.

When you hear a descending tone, dial your AT+T, NW Bell, or US West calling card number, the area code + 7 digit number, and then your pin number; your call will then go through.

If you use cards from other long distance services, please use special instructions on the cards. If you have questions, please call the staff in the Telecommunications Office (x3041).

Calls charged to your credit card will appear on your home telephone bill.

AT+T "Call me home" cards can only be used to call home.

To call International numbers with AT+T credit cards, dial 9-00 and speak with the operator.

MCI Card Instructions: dial 9-1-800-950-1022. You will get a computer tone. Then dial 0-area code + 7 digit number you're calling. You'll get another tone. Then dial your 14 digit calling card number.

Sprint Card Instructions: dial 9-1-800-877-8000. Wait for a tone, then dial 0-area code + 7 digit number. Then dial your 14 digit Sprint card number.
The most economical call is a direct dial call using the St. Olaf College system. There is a service charge on all calls placed with a "calling card". This is a charge assessed by the issuing company.
You are unable to place '900' or'976' number calls from campus telephones.
